AIDR's Resilience Ambassadors
AIDR’s Resilience Ambassadors Program commenced in March 2017 with five young people from across Australia who are volunteers or staff in disaster resilience organisations. Each ambassador undertakes a year-long project that will benefit their organisation and in turn, their communities. The Ambassadors also have the opportunity to attend professional development workshops which provide additional skills and knowledge to these emerging leaders.
The Ambassadors have been progressing their projects since March 2017 and are in the stages of finalising their projects. “The Resilience Ambassadors Program has been a tremendous opportunity for me to develop a Community Resilience Strategic Plan for the South Australia SES. The project has had its challenges but I have consulted and collaborated with subject matter experts outside of my organisation to bring this project together. After completing the foundational work and adding depth to the document, I have a greater appreciation for strategic plans” says Jayme Moreland, Ambassador from South Australia.
In September, the Ambassadors traveled to Sydney to attend AFAC17. "AFAC17 give me access to a wealth of research and practice-based knowledge on the most cutting-edge solutions and approaches to emergency management," says Georgia Hay, Ambassador from Western Australia. "I had the opportunity to learn from, share my experiences, and laugh with emergency management staff and volunteers from across Australia, and beyond. It was both informative and inspiring to gain an understanding of the broader Australian emergency management context, as well as the nuances of emergency management in each state and various local communities."
