Revisit Knowledge Week presentations online
Tthe Australian Disaster Resilience Conference presents Knowledge Week, hosted 24-27 August, provided a virtual space for the disaster resilience community to come together to connect, reflect, and navigate the complexity of large scale disasters and how we can build resilience to them.
All of the presentations from the online event are now available to watch online via the AIDR Knowledge Hub. Browse and share the collection to continue the conversation on disaster risk reduction and building pathways to impact.
This event was enriched by the insights and enthusiasm of our presenters throughout the week. In lieu of speaker gifts, a donation has been made on their behalf to Orange Sky Laundry.
Delivering our conference in an online format removed barriers to participation such as travel and location-based commitments, instead streaming directly to offices and homes in capital cities, regional centres and rural towns. It also allowed a unique digital curation of our conference so you can revisit any presentation, at any time.
This extraordinary year has brought challenges, but has also challenged our thinking. We are excited to explore the next chapter of the conversation when the conference returns in 2021, scheduled for 18-19 August at the International Convention Centre in Sydney.

- Keynote Speaker: Alice Hill
2020 saw everyone experience catastrophic risk at once. Before COVID-19, experts warned that pandemics were a question of when, not if. As the disease spread, people still suffered from other hazards—bigger wildfires, higher storm surge, and greater heat—which experts warned were a question of when, not if. - Panel: What do we need to be resilient to?
Recent history has brought forward unprecedented, but not unforeseeable, events. There are so many factors at play when it comes to reducing risk and building resilience. So, what do we need to be resilient to? Dr Melissa Parsons, Cheryl Durrant, Michael Crawford, Shane Fitzsimmons and Toby Kent discuss. - Fifth National DRANZSEN Forum
The forum explored youth voice and participation and the impacts of bushfires, drought and covid-19 on children and young people. Presenters shared innovative programs for disaster resilience in schools, youth leadership in communities and findings of a national survey on climate and disaster risk. - Community Engagement Handbook Showcase
